Initiative Grant Program

The Office of International Programs (OIP), through the India Center Initiative, offered grants for summer 2008 to invite faculty or scholars from South Asia to visit the university.

OIP provided up to $2,000 to an individual faculty per scholar from South Asia who was invited to the University. The criteria for receiving a grant included:

• The faculty or scholar could come to the University for a minimum of 3 weeks between May 25 and September 25;
  
  
• The purpose of the visit was for scholarly research and/or engagement; and
  
  
• This funding was matched equally by the college and (an)other source(s) for a minimum total funding of $6,000.

Using funds provided by the Minnesota legislature for such a purpose, OIP was interested in funding new or ongoing research related to South Asia through this program.

We funded five scholars and made the offer to 9 colleges. Requests for funding were accepted until May 1, 2008.
